This project deals with a multi-objective design/optimisation problem of gridshells. Structural behavior and light absorption are selected as separate fitness functions, as these performance criteria are likely to lead to different, and divergent, optimal solutions. Optimisation is performed with the aid of a Genetic Algorithm (GA), as GAs explore and search widely for suitable solutions, therefore becoming design tools rather than solution tools. Three benchmarks are first used, and then a more complex application is made to an existing case study, the Esplanade in Singapore.
